NAC 6 Minutes 9/20/04

PRESENT: Katherine Jones, Trish Cunningham, Paul Dienes, Sara McGill, Lisa Grove, Bill McGuire

Colonel Ball is coming on 10/18/04.  We will send a letter to the NAC 6 neighbors.

Sara asked for volunteers to staff a booth for the NACs at In The Streets.

Sara asked, on behalf of Marcia Hall, that we write letters about what we like most about downtown Frederick for a campaign that is going on.  We should be getting a letter from her about the campaign explaining where to send it.

We discussed the Fairview and Magnolia parking problem around Hood College again.  There has been an increase in night class enrollment at Hood.  There is no room left for residents once the night class students arrive to park in the neighborhood before class.  There is open parking on Rosemont and on the Hood campus at this time that residents have seen, but they do not have access to this parking when the students use the on street parking in their neighborhood. They perceive the parking in the neighborhood as being closer to the classrooms than the parking that is available on campus.

Some of the neighbors have raised the issue with Hood officials, have never received a real response.  We discussed making the streets parking by residential permit only.  There is no parking available at the corner of Evergreen and Ferndale.  There is a no parking sign at the front of the Hood Maintenance Department; maybe that should be made available to students at night after the building closes for the day.

Hood is also building townhouses and apartments for student housing, needs to create parking on campus for these.

Discussed having a visitor permit for residents who can’t find parking on the streets near their home.  This issue mainly affects people on College and Magnolia Avenues.  Ask what Hood College can do to relieve the parking problems.  The problem is highest between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday.
