NAC 6 Minutes 6/24/04
PRESENT: Katherine Jones, Trish Cunningham, Paul Dienes, Sarah Finefrock, Dan Beins, Lisa and Randy Grove, Pat McGuire
Mr. McGuire Lisa and Randy Grove were present to discuss how they have regular experiences having the mirrors of their cars clipped by passing traffic on Wilson Place. They believe it is because the city painted a yellow “no passing” line down the middle of the street. The lanes seem too narrow, people won’t cross the line, and they end up clipping the side view mirrors of the cars parked on Wilson. It has happened 4-6 times to them within the past year. One car, belonging to a friend visiting them, was nearly totaled by a passing car.
We discussed possible solutions: having engineering put large planters in front of people’s houses, on an alternating basis. Having parking limited to one side of the street only. Reducing the speed limit. We decided this is all part and parcel with the request to address traffic calming already posed in our previous letter to the Traffic Engineer, and we will wait to see what they have planned.
We discussed how Captain Ball has stated that Fort Detrick will be assigning the 7th Street gate to be the Main Gate into Fort Detrick. Many of our neighbors believe this is a major contributing factor to the traffic speeds we see every day on our streets. So we decided to ask Captain Ball to come to a meeting to address our concerns. We will ask him to our July 19, 2004, meeting. Fort Detrick did get the tax break they requested from the city, so we think they should come and address the needs of the community. Sarah will invite Colonel Ball.
Problems with Sheetz arose again. Code Enforcement has been called about Sheetz’s failure to meet the requirements made of them in their site plan. When Code Enforcement came to view the property, Paul Dienes was cited for a code violation.
Mr. Dienes is having some problems with the construction on Rosemont. The City did not purchase construction easements, but are storing equipment and materials on his property without that. He was directed to contact Chuck Boyer about the problem.
We discussed inviting Sheetz to a meeting to discuss the problems with meeting their site plan, and announcing it to neighbors as we had with the issue about traffic in the neighborhood. We discussed having that meeting scheduled for the Boardroom, and asking the Gazette to come to the meeting. We did not schedule a date.
