Meeting Minutes

Thursday, January 22, 2004

 

I.                   Opening –

 

The fourth meeting of NAC Area 5 was opened at 7 p.m. by Chairman Grady Tallington, Jr. at Waverly Elementary School.

 

II.                Public Comment (3 minutes per speaker; speakers must sign up 30 minutes prior to meeting)

 

There was no public comment.

 

III.             Minutes –

 

The minutes of the November meeting were read and approved; there were no minutes for December 2003 since NAC 5 participated in a joint meeting with NAC 8.

 

IV.              Frederick City Police Department Crime Statistics Review –

 

Corporal Dudley, NAC 5 & 8 Liaison from FPD, addressed the issues and presented statistics on the types of crime currently occurring in NAC 5.  Corporal Dudley provided charts showing the types of crime which had occurred in our area and where.  In addition he talked briefly about the rise of such gangs as MS13 and the Brown Union and what to be on the alert to observe.  Questions were also taken from the audience.

 

 

V.                 Old Business

 

Talks on ways to increase membership and community participation were tabled until the next meeting in February.

VII.           Officer and Member Assignments

 

a.       Diana Halleman – schedule speakers for next meeting in February and March; schedule joint meeting with NAC 8; continue to work on NAC brochure.

b.      All - Review NAC Responsibilities for 2004 Planning

c.       Kimberly Foster – continue to look at possible math workshops as previously discussed

d.      Diana Halleman – Contact NAC 8 about joint festival in early fall to introduce NAC and bring communities together.  Work with Sarah Finefrock to schedule.

e.       All – attend Mayor’s State of the City Address on January 31.

 

VIII.        Adjournment

 

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:50 p.m.  The next meeting of NAC Area 5 will be on Thursday, February 19th at 7 p.m. at Waverly Elementary School.

 

Future Meetings:  Thursday, March 18th 7 p.m. Waverly Elementary School – joint meeting with members of NAC 8; tentative discussion of Youth Commission slated.
