Meeting Minutes
Thursday, February
19, 2004
I.
Opening –
The meeting of NAC Area 5 was opened at 7 p.m. by Chairman
Grady Tallington, Jr. at Waverly Elementary School. Attending were members Kimber Foster and Diana Halleman along
with the chair.
II.
Public Comment (3 minutes per speaker; speakers must
sign up 30 minutes prior to meeting)
There was no public comment.
III.
Minutes –
The minutes of the January meeting were read and approved.
IV.
Frederick City Police Department Update –
Lt. Kevin Grubb gave an update on crime in NAC 5
saying that juvenile crimes from all over the city are drawn to area 5 because
of the restaurants, malls, etc. Lt.
Grubb also reported that the Latino Forum went exceedingly well and had good
participation. Accompanying Lt. Grubb
was Michelle Davis from the Police Action League. Michelle told the group about current on-going activities at
Hillcrest Elementary School and at Waverly.
The program at Waverly is not as big or well attending, according to
Michelle, due to restrictions put in place by school staff on who may
attend. The Waverly program is limited
to grades 3-5 and runs from 6:30 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday evenings. It was suggested that the NAC could make a
difference in helping to improve communication within the school administration
to garner more support for the programs’ expansion to other age groups.
