RECAP OF MEETING
Thank you everyone for coming out on Monday night, making our first planning effort such a productive one! It is exciting to work together to make our nice neighborhood an even better place!
We especially thank Yolanda Woods, Citizens' Advocate for the City of Frederick, who had a long, late drive home to Baltimore City and who stayed past work hours to meet with us. We also want to thank Officer Rocca, who was well prepared with statistics and information and who met with us in his off-duty time. This type of cooperation is just one of the many reasons why we find the NAC initiative so exciting.
The meeting was attended by: Beth Conny, Connie Pryor, Dave Shankle (NAC board members); and Kathy Griffee, Marlin and Jane Cohen, Andrea Arnold, David and Mira Millison, Dwight Rivera, Don McArdell, Jerome Lyons, Frank Damanti, Judy Hill, Will Agee and Amanda Agee, Bob Hershberger, and Joanne Chung. (Did I miss anyone? Please let me know and I will add your name).
As a group we reviewed five possible areas of concern:
1. Code enforcement
2. Public safety
3. Creating community
4. Park maintenance and enhancement
5. Creating a working relationship with Ft. Detrick
By show of hands, we chose to concentrate on three of them for now. We have formed three groups to begin work on these issues.
***********************
1) Code Enforcement issues
These include: housing rentals; commercial vehicles in the neighborhood and on Amber Drive; noise level enforcement (which we learned is a police issue); children's mini-cars being driven in the neighborhood; barking dogs/ unattended dogs (which we learned is a Fred. Co. Animal Control Center issue); overgrown lawns; trash, debris, and waste storage and removal regulations.
* Kathy Griffee will head this group, ably assisted by Dave Shankle, Don McArdell, and perhaps * * Carl Gentile (Dave volunteered you, Carl!!!!!)
***********************
2) Police/ Safety issues
These include Amber Meadows Park; speeding; littering; installation of possible speed bumps. Officer Rocca has agreed to be a regular attendee at the meetings for a while so there is continuity with the Frederick City Police Department
*Andrea Arnold will head this group, ably assisted by Dwight Rivera, Will Agee, and Judy Hill.
***********************
3) Creating Community
These include outreach to our Hispanic neighbors through bilingual programs/communications. (Hood student Amanda Jiminez has offered to translate newsletters and possibly attend meetings as a translator.) Also included: having snacks at NAC meetings --we need our STRENGTH!!
* Judy Hill will head this group, ably assisted by Andrea Arnold, Mira Millison, and Beth Conny, who has volunteered to help us with the newsletter.)
BTW:
We have invited the following City officials to attend and be part of our brainstorming session: Yolanda Woods and Sara McGill (see their titles above); Officer Rocca to be part of the Police/ Safety Issues group; and Catherine Parks from the City's Code Enforcement office (or her designee) to be part of the Code Enforcement group.

The following folks are interested in handing out flyers, which Beth Conny will create:
* Kathy Griffee--Hillmeade Square
* Frank Damanti--Harvest Drive
* Judy Hill--Stonehaven
* Amanda Agee--Meadowgrove Lane
* Robert Hershberger--Rocky Glen Drive
Anyone else willing to do flyers/ newsletter for their street? We need all the help we can get! Please email me at
cwpryor@adelphia.net

Several people generously offered to bring snacks to the next meeting: Judy Hill, Andrea Arnold, and possibly Mira Millison (Did I miss anyone here? Please let me know.)
Vocelli's pizza has offered to provide several pizza free of charge at our meetings, if we want them to. What does everyone think? Respond to me, Connie Pryor,
cwpryor@adelphia.net.
I will get some coloring books and crayons in case people bring children--kids need something to do that is fun ( listening to us does not quality as fun!!)
