ATTENTION:  Building Inspections Update:
Due to required training, BUILDING INSPECTIONS WILL NOT be performed.

            JULY 19, 2016 – Tuesday

BUILDING CODE UPDATE:

EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2016,  The 2015 Edition of of the I.B.C. (International Building Code), The 2015 Edition of the I.R.C. (International Residential Code), The 2015 Edition of the IECC (International Energy Conservation Code) and the Maryland Building Performance Standards will be applicable to permits applied for after December 31, 2015.  These codes will replace the previously enforced 2012 Editions.

RESIDENTIAL BUILDERS NOTE: 
If your company currently has a production number for your house designs, be advised that you must apply for a new production number using plans that have been updated to the 2015 codes.

FIRE CODE UPDATE:
EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2016, 
The City of Frederick will enforce the following codes:

  • 2015 NFPA 1 (FIRE CODE)
  • 2015 NFPA101 (LIFE SAFETY CODE)
Standards referenced by these codes will also be effective (including 2013 NFPA 13 and 2013 NFPA 72).  These new codes and standards are applicable to Building and Fire Protection permits submitted after December 31, 2015.
 


ATTENTION:
  City of Frederick ELECTRICAL Contractors
All City of Frederick Electrical registrations will expire on July 31, 2015.
In order to continue working within the City of Frederick, you must remit an application and payment by CASH or CHECK ONLY.  Incomplete applications will not be processed. 
Please refer to the Licensing section under Building/Permits for details.

·     EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2015, The City of Frederick will be enforcing the following code:

  • 2014  NEC
The 2014 NEC code will apply to ALL applications submitted AFTER June 30, 2015. 

ATTENTION PLUMBING CONTRACTORS: 
EFFECTIVE 08-28-14 -   Backflow Test Forms and Device Tags have been recently updated.  Please click here more more information. 

ELECTRICAL CONTRACTORS: 
EFFECTIVE 5/20/13 -   Electrical permit applications have been updated.  
Please sure to use these updated forms (Residential 7a 05-20-13 and Commercial 7b 05-20-13) when submitting for electrical permits. Any application submitted using the old forms will not be accepted.

Be sure to complete the forms in their entirety, including the Potomac Edison request/work number (if applicable).
 Incomplete information and/or missing Potomac Edison work numbers will result in the applications being returned for additional information.  Should you have any questions, please contact the Building Department at 301-600-3814.


ONE-STOP SHOP - ZONING APPLICATIONS:
EFFECTIVE  SEPTEMBER 18, 2012, The City of Frederick will be accepting applications for Zoning Permits during the One-Stop Shop (OSS).  Please note that as with all applications submitted during the OSS, missing or incomplete information will result in the application being placed on hold.  It may also be necessary for Staff to place applications on hold that require additional review, research or analysis.

PLUMBING / UTILITY NOTICE
EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2012, Maryland law House Bill 372 will require that all pipes, pipe fittings, plumbing fittings, or fixtures used in the installation or repair of plumbing intended to dispense water for human consumption must comply with the requirements for lead-free materials contained in the Annotated Code of Maryland, Business Occupations and Professions Article, Section 12-605.1 and 12-605.2.
Frederick City will apply this requirement to applications dated January 1, 2012 or after.
