Item 1: Approval of the minutes from the meeting of
December 8th, 2004.
Minutes were approved as written.
Item 2: Discussion and
consideration of a request by Mr. Gregory Galaida of Advocates for the
Homeless, Inc. to appeal the water bill for the transitional housing properties
at
124 -126 Ice Street. Ms. Sewell spoke to the committee regarding the property at 126 Ice Street and stated that it was not occupied due to it being a transitional housing unit. Ms. Sewell stated that a family was living at 124 Ice Street and reported that the toilet was leaking but the problem was not detected until later. Ms. Sewel stated that due to the unusually large water bill they were seeking some sort of relief. Mr. Brown stated that the next bill would be a little bit higher but closer to normal and knows that it was the toilet that had a leak. Alderman Hall stated that as a rule if it goes thru the meter and it does not go thru the sewer the committee may be able to help, otherwise if it goes thru the sewer it is your responsibility. Ms. Nickols stated that there is no ability to waive the bill. Alderman Lenhart asked if a fee structure could be used to help with the bill. Mr. Leisenring stated that this is possible but that the bill had already been paid. Alderman Ramsburg suggested that the water be turned off when properties are not being occupied.
Motion: Alderman Ramsburg moved to deny the request by Mr. Galaida of Advocates for the Homeless, Inc. to appeal the water bill for the transitional housing properties at 124-126 Ice Street. Alderman Bill Hall seconded. Vote 3-0 to deny.
