TAXI CAB COMMISSION MEETING

Item 1:
Approval of the minutes from the meeting of February 7th,
2005.
Minutes
were tabled until a future meeting.
Item 2:
Discussion and review of taxicab rates with regard to the manner in
which “crossover speed” is determined by the taximeters.
Lt.
Tom Chase reviewed a document presented to the committee and explained Taxicab
rates versus crossover speeds. Lt. Chase
stated that the taxicab meters at the current rates do not make it possible to
set a crossover speed. Lt Chase
explained the relevant federal regulations as instituted by the National
Institute of
Standards and Technology.
Motion: Alderwoman Ramsburg
moved to change the time rate to $24.00 per hour thereby making the crossover
speed 15 miles per hour. Seconded by Alderman Bill Hall. Vote 3-0 in favor.
Discussion:
The
Commission was questioned as to the amount of time needed to change the color
scheme of new or existing cabs according to the Ordinance.
Motion: Alderwoman Ramsburg
moved to make an amendment to Section 23-32 D that states all Taxicabs in use
on the effective date of this chapter shall comply with the provisions of this
section within one year of such effective date to extend that date for six
months. Seconded by
Alderman Bill Hall. Vote 3-0 in
favor.
Both
portions of the motion are to brought to a business
meeting of a Mayor and Board workshop as a consent recommendation by a
Commission.
