EDUCATION COMMISSION
MEETING MINUTES
October 31, 2002
Mr. Jim Robbins of the Police Athletic
League (PAL) explained and gave a history of the program. He also explained how this program works
well with youth and the areas that are currently involved with this
program.
A discussion was held regarding the RAD Kids
safety program and the Gang Resistance Education and Training or (GREAT)
program. The cost of the RAD program is
$8,000 dollars and this covers training and equipment. The age groups are 5 to 7 years of age and 8
to10. The training for youth is 9 hours
and adults is three days. The question
was asked about RAD for middle schoolers and have found that programs must be
limited to areas where they are run.
PAL needs space in all areas but finding locations is difficult.
Suzanne Fiorvanti and Mr. Clayborne have
made requests to take Frederick High School to the Peach Bowl and requested
money for this trip. They would be the
only school from the State of Maryland to go and it would cost $375.00 dollars
per student. Discussion was held on
fund raising activities and volunteer activities for this trip to take
place.
Discussion was held on policy and how money
from the commission should be spent.
The number of city schools and what items are important is an
