FPD TO USE VIDEO REMOTE INTERPRETING

FREDERICK, MD –The Frederick Police Department will begin to utilize Purple Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) on November 9, 2017. The service will be for emergency situations and will not take the place of a certified interpreter for interviews.

“The Frederick Police Department is excited to join a growing list of law enforcement agencies from around the country that use Purple VRI to communicate with individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing, said Chief Ed Hargis. This program allows our officers to save valuable time in providing police assistance to the hearing impaired within minutes of arriving on the scene of an incident.”

Purple’s Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) is an on-demand service that provides communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing persons and hearing persons that are in the same location, utilizing an interpreter by way of a computer with a webcam and Internet connection or a tablet using a cellular connection.
