Airport Enhances Stormwater Management

Essential stages of the Frederick Municipal Airport Runway expansion have been completed, with the installation of new storm drains.

The Airport recently completed installation of over 4,900 feet of storm drain pipe. The newly installed pipe enhances the airport’s overall stormwater management system, and ensures runoff from future development won’t pose a flooding hazard.

The effort was part of a larger project to cut approximately 187,000 cubic yards of dirt on airport property to clear the way for a runway extension. Once completed, runway 5/23 will be extended 600 feet for a final distance of 5,820 feet.
