Frederick Police Request Assistance in Identifying Suspect in Counterfeit Currency Cases (CIS)
The Frederick Police Department is investigating four incidents where counterfeit U.S. bills were passed at local businesses in October. The incidents are currently assigned to Detective Kevin Forrest. The Frederick Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect possibly involved in two of the incidents. All businesses are reminded to be vigilant when accepting U.S. currency.
-Take a moment to inspect the bill
-Learn and look for the security features on U.S. bills. www.uscurrency.gov is an excellent resource
-Feel the bill, checking for raised ink, uniform thickness of the paper and texture
-Compare one bill with another of the same denomination to see if they are alike
-If you receive two bills, look at the serial number to see if it is the same (it should not be)
-U.S. bills have a security thread that runs vertically up the left side of the bill
-Check for watermarks on the left side of the bill holding it up to a light
-Use counterfeit detector pens
The Frederick Police Department is asking anyone who recognizes the suspect to contact Detective Kevin Forrest at 301-748-7122. Callers may also remain anonymous and contact the Frederick Police Department’s Crime Tip Line at 301-600-TIPS (8477).
