Sec. 23-42. Notification of taxicab owners of regular inspection period.


(a) In addition to inspections conducted pursuant to section 23-41, each taxicab specified by a permit holder shall undergo a minimum of one inspection per year to insure that it is operated in conformance with the current equipment standards promulgated jointly by the Maryland State Police Automotive Safety Enforcement Division and the state motor vehicle administration as well as the requirements required by the city enumerated in this chapter.
(b) A regular inspection shall be conducted by the police department. The permit holder shall be given a minimum of ten (10) business days’ written notice of the dates, times and locations of the required inspections.
(c) Any taxicab which is not present during the required inspection or which fails at any time to adhere to the standards of safety adopted by this chapter and the standards set jointly by the Maryland State Police Automotive Safety Enforcement Division and the state motor vehicle administration shall result in the immediate suspension of the permit specified for that taxicab. Such permit card shall be immediately returned to the taxicab administrative agency.
(d) The permit holder of any permit which has been suspended under the provisions of this section shall have ten (10) business days after the suspension to request and have completed the required inspection. Failure to obtain a passing inspection within ten (10) days of the suspension shall result in the forfeiture of the permit for the specified vehicle. (Ord. No. G-04-10, 6-3-04)
