ARTICLE IV. TAXICAB OPERATORS
Sec. 23-25. Responsibility of operator to see that equipment is in good working order; tampering with equipment.
(a) It shall be the responsibility of the operator, upon having been
assigned to a taxicab, to ascertain that the equipment in the taxicab is in good
working order. The fare meter shall be required to conform to and comply with
all standards for approval as established and approved by the
commission.
(b) No operator shall tamper with rate cards, fare meters,
speedometer cables, or other equipment required by law to be in the
taxicab.
(c) The fare meter shall be properly secured by security tape or
metal crimping tape, to be applied and secured by the police department, so as
to prevent tampering.
(d) Operators shall be required to use fare meters at
all times while transporting a patron. The meter shall be started at the point
of origination and terminated at the destination.
(e) Violation of any
provision of this section is declared to be a municipal infraction, punishable
by a fine not to exceed the sum of one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) per
