Sec. 23-6. Same--Maximum number to be issued.


(a) Upon the effective date of this chapter the commission shall make available, on a one-time basis, up to sixty-seven (67) taxicab permits, but in no event less than one permit per one thousand (1,000) city residents.
(b) Each year following the issuance of permits in the manner specified in subsection (a) of this section, the commission may renew taxicab permits equal to the amount issued the previous year or one permit per one thousand (1,000) city residents, whichever shall be greater.
(c) If, at any time the number of existing permits shall exceed the greater of sixty-seven (67), or one permit per one thousand (1,000) city residents, the commission shall not issue new permits.
(d) The commission shall use the most recent population estimate provided by the city’s director of planning for purposes of determining the number of city residents.
(e) The maximum number of permits may be changed by vote of the mayor and board of aldermen. (Ord. No. G-04-10, 6-3-04)
