Chapter 17 POLICE DEPARTMENT*
ARTICLE I. IN GENERAL
Sec. 17-1.1. Deputy chief of police.
The chief of police may designate without examination to serve at the
pleasure of the chief of police, subject to the approval of the mayor and board
of aldermen, one or more police officers holding rank above and including that
of captain to be operations bureau captain and administrative bureau captain.
Upon termination of such designation by the chief of police, such person shall
return to the rank held by him prior to the designation without loss of any
rights and privileges under the merit system, or to such higher grade or
position to which the mayor and board of aldermen may appoint him. (Ord. No.
