Sec. 9-1.1. Same--Amendments to State of Maryland Fire Prevention Code.


(a) Modify NFPA 1, Subsection 18.2.2.5.3 to read: Turns in fire lanes shall maintain a minimum twenty-five (25) foot inner radius and a minimum fifty (50) foot outer radius.
(b) Modify NFPA 1, Section 18.2.2.5.7 to read: Where required by the AHJ, fire lanes shall be marked with freestanding signs stating “FIRE LANE--NO PARKING.” The sign shall have a minimum size of twelve (12) inches by eighteen (18) inches and shall have red letters on a white background. Signs shall be placed at fifty (50) foot intervals where required by the AHJ. In addition to signs, curbs and pavement shall be designated as fire lanes where required by the AHJ. Yellow traffic paint shall be used for this designation.
(c) Add NFPA 1, Subsection 10.13.14: Minimum four (4) inch high numbers shall be posted to meet the requirements of 10.13.1.1. Where buildings are set back from a roadway or fire lane, number size shall be increased as necessary to be readily visible.
(d) Add NFPA 1, Subsection 10.13.1.5: Doors serving a tenant space in a multi-tenant building, such as strip shopping centers and office buildings, that have multiple doors at grade level providing direct access to tenant spaces, shall be identified by suite number and tenant name in minimum of one inch letters and numbers. These markings shall be placed on the exterior of the door so as to be readily visible from the building exterior.
(e) Add NFPA 1, Subsection 18.3.3.1: Fire hydrants shall be provided for new construction and additions to existing construction so that all exterior portions of the new construction and/or addition are within five hundred (500) feet of a fire hydrant, measured by an approved route around the building exterior.
(f) Add NFPA 1, Subsections 13.1.4.1 and 13.1.4.2:
(1) 13.1.4.1. Fire department connections serving a sprinkler and/or standpipe system shall be located within one hundred (100) feet of a fire hydrant.
(2) 13.1.4.2. Fire department connections shall be located in an approved location on the street side or the side of primary fire department vehicle access and shall be within forty (40) feet of an approved fire lane or street. (Ord. No. G-01-43, § 1, 10-18-01; Ord. No. G-04-24, 9-16-04)
