Sec. 6-10. Insect and rodent control.

(a) Regulation. Unless other effective means are provided to prevent the entrance of flies, all openings into the outer air shall be effectively screened and doors shall be self-closing. All means necessary for the elimination of flies, roaches and rodents shall be used.
(b) Satisfactory Compliance.
(1) All openings to the outer air are effectively screened, with screen of not less than 16 mesh. All doors are self-closing and open outward. Window and door screens are tight-fitting and free of holes--this includes the screens for skylights, transoms and ventilating openings; or
(2) Fans of special design, properly placed and of sufficient power to prevent the entrance of flies are in use at all otherwise ineffectively protected openings; or
(3) Electric screens are provided at all otherwise ineffectively protected openings; or
(4) Air pressure inside the building is maintained at a higher level than outside.
(5) Where deemed necessary by the deputy state health officer, all enclosed spaces within double walls, between ceilings and floors, beneath floors in boxed-in utilities and in fixtures and equipment which provide harborage and potential breeding places for rodents and vermin have been eliminated or all exposed edges of such walls, floors and sheathing have been protected against gnawing by rodents through the installation of approved rodent-proof material and against the penetration of insects by proper sealing. All openings in walls, floors and ceilings through which pipes, electric cables and other conduits pass have been properly sealed with snugly fitting collars of metal or other approved rodent-proof material securely fastened in place and so maintained. Propagation of rodents and invasion and infestation of the premises by them has been permanently prevented.
(6) All stationary pieces of equipment have been placed flush with the floor, the adjoining piece of equipment or the wall and all joints are sealed; or adequate space for cleaning is maintained between pieces of equipment, the equipment and the wall, and the floor and the bottom of equipment.
(7) All supplementary means necessary for the elimination of flies, roaches, rodents and other vermin are employed. All poisonous compounds used in the extermination of rodents and insects are plainly labeled as “Poison” and are securely stored in a place separate from food, drink and utensils, and when in use are so employed as not to contaminate food, drink, utensils or food-bearing surfaces.
(8) Devices which constantly diffuse air-borne chemicals harmful to man are not used in rooms or areas where food and drink is prepared or where food, drink and utensils are stored.
